Jackson’s Flower Walk 2020
This year was our third flower walk in Jackson’s memory. In earlier years, we’ve all gathered at the south end of Green Lake here in Seattle to do the walk as a big group - but this year, we felt it would be much safer to have people do a flower walk in their own neighborhood instead. We opened with a brief video on Instagram Live, and asked people to send us a photo from their walk.
What is a flower walk? When Jackson was a toddler (and an early riser), we would often go on “flower walks” around our Green Lake neighborhood to pass the time, and experience the world through Jackson’s eyes. We would smell flowers, blow on the dandelion “puffballs”, and look for bunnies along the way. It has been a very special tradition to host Jackson’s Flower Walk in his memory. We not only smell the flowers for Jackson, but we also raise money and awareness for Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC), while performing acts of kindness in his honor.
This year we had over 200 people attend remotely with flower walks in their hometowns around the world. Through your generosity, this walk raised over $4,000 for SUDC (there were additional donations made outside the GoFundMe). We’re grateful to know that these funds will help advance SUDC research and advocacy.
We are so grateful for the incredible showing of love and support from our community — family, friends, neighbors, teachers, coworkers, other SUDC families, and more.
Thank you for showing your love and support for us this year, and for always keeping Jackson close to your hearts.
